Coaltown Coffee Roasters is a speciality roaster based in Ammanford, a former anthracite mining town in Carmarthenshire, South West Wales. The roastery sits in the heart of a town whose last colliery closed in 2003, and the business positions speciality coffee as a successor to coal.
It is a certified B Corp and a Living Wage Foundation employer, with a stated commitment to accountability and transparency throughout its supply chains. Coaltown roasts on two machines: a custom-restored 75kg roaster named Geoffrey (a GG75) for house blends and popular single origins, and a 12kg Probat reserved for smaller batch single origins.
The range covers direct trade origins including Ethiopia, Brazil, Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo, alongside Nespresso-compatible compostable pods. Alongside the Ammanford roastery and canteen, the business runs an espresso bar in Pontarddulais and a presence in Cardiff, and supplies wholesale across the UK.
The brand has been featured in The Times, Vogue, The Guardian, BBC News, GQ and Monocle.
