Campbell & Syme was founded in 2012 by Joe Syme following a trip to Portland, Oregon, where the city's coffee scene made a strong impression. The roastery began at markets before opening a flagship cafe in East Finchley, North London, where public cuppings and coffee workshops became part of how the business engaged with its local community.

The roastery operation has since moved to larger premises in Kings Langley, Hertfordshire, while the East Finchley cafe remains. Co-owners Bara and Ben both came through that original cafe.

Green coffee is bought through direct trade relationships. Campbell & Syme is a member of World Coffee Research, supports the Project Waterfall clean water initiative, and partners with Rewilding Britain.

Wholesale supply, subscriptions, and training are all part of the offer.
