Altitude Coffee London is a small-batch speciality roastery based in Unit 2, 190 Hornchurch Road, Hornchurch, run by founder Joe, a former commercial airline pilot who turned a layover habit into a coffee brand built around aviation. Roasting takes place by hand on a custom Giesen cast-iron roaster at the Hornchurch unit, with every bag roasted to order and shipped within 48 hours via Royal Mail 24, sized to fit through a letterbox.
Beans come through Mercanta, a long-standing speciality importer, and producers are paid more than twice the Fair Trade price. Packaging is fully plant-starch lined, including the zip and air valve, with no plastic.
Spent coffee grounds are sent to a local organic farmer for composting. The roastery has won six Great Taste Awards across 2021 to 2024 and sells direct to consumers online, with subscriptions, wholesale supply, machine leasing and white-label roasting all available.
