Carnival Coffee Roasters operates from a workshop in Penge, South East London, roasting speciality coffee and selling it directly to the local community through cycle deliveries and UK-wide dispatch. The roastery was founded by Jayne and Juan, whose connection to coffee runs deeper than most: Juan's grandfather won a mountain in Medellin, Colombia in a game of cards, and the family have grown coffee on it ever since.
That Colombian relationship shapes how the roastery sources, with a genuine connection to the farmers behind the beans. Penge's independent spirit is woven into how Carnival operates.
Local friends on bikes handle deliveries across South East London postcodes twice a week. The packaging artwork is designed by Rosie Lovelock, a Penge-based illustrator who creates a unique mask design for each coffee, drawing on the carnival traditions and visual culture of each origin country.
The roastery also collaborates with local breweries and other food producers, and has produced coffee beers and coffee candles alongside its core range.
