Cartwheel Coffee Roasters is one of the longer-running independent roasteries in Nottingham, with a roastery and cafe in Sneinton and a second cafe in Beeston. The business was founded by Alex alongside his wife Becci, with a small team that includes head roaster Joe, assistant roaster Matias and Beeston site manager Ela.
Sourcing is built on direct relationships with individual farmers and washing stations, working with around 50 coffees a year from countries including Ethiopia, El Salvador, Brazil, Colombia, Rwanda, Peru, Uganda and Timor-Leste. The roast style is led by flavour rather than house profile, covering both espresso and filter.
Cartwheel runs a wholesale arm, a subscription, and barista training and brewing workshops with accredited Q-graders on the team. Sustainability features include 100% recyclable bags, renewable energy at the roastery, an electric delivery van, and waste chaff and grounds composted at local allotments.
