Nottinghamshire has 6 independent coffee roasters, with Nottingham the centre of gravity (200 Degrees, Cartwheel, Outpost, Stewarts, Lone Wolf) plus Worksop in the north (Piccolos). The county is unusual in producing one of the most recognisable specialty chains to come out of the UK regions: 200 Degrees grew from a Nottingham garage in 2012 to a 200 tonne a year roastery and over 20 shops across the country.
200 Degrees started in 2012 with three blokes around an old roaster in a Nottingham garage and now roasts over 200 tonnes of coffee a year from a purpose built roast house, runs more than 20 shops from Cardiff to Chester to Birmingham to Leeds, and supplies over 500 wholesale clients including university campuses. Cartwheel Coffee Roasters operates in Sneinton (with a second site in Beeston), founded by Alex with his wife Becci, who deliberately combined high quality food and coffee under one roof at a time when that combination was uncommon in the city. Piccolos Coffee in Worksop has an unusual origin story for a specialty roaster: the business started as a handmade cake bakery in 1994, founded by Tony Brammer, grew through local markets and agricultural shows, then added freshly roasted coffee in 2001 and an espresso bar in 2011.
Nottingham city centre is the easiest visitor stop, with multiple roaster run cafes within walking distance (Cartwheel in Sneinton, plus 200 Degrees city centre sites). Worksop (Piccolos) sits separately if you are routing through the north of the county. Several Nottinghamshire roasters supply nationally and you will find their beans well beyond the East Midlands.
