Darkhouse Coffee Roasters was founded in 2019 by Jiri Buchtela, a barista and roaster who trained in the Czech Republic before moving to Cumbria. The roastery is based in Keswick in the Lake District and started supplying cafes and hotels locally before expanding to online retail and subscriptions.
The business has a direct connection to Vietnam, having visited plantations there firsthand, and works with two Cumbrian-based green bean suppliers who have family links to producing farms. Darkhouse positions itself around the outdoor culture of the Lake District and serves a community of subscribers alongside local hospitality accounts.
The range includes specialty single origin coffees that have been scored at independent cupping events.
