Fountain Rock Coffee Roasters is a speciality roastery in Weymouth, Dorset, founded by Andrew, a scientist by background who turned to coffee after a conversation with a cafe owner in St Ives about adjusting espresso shots for the changing micro-climate. He went on to train with the Speciality Coffee Association of Europe, taking accredited courses in sensory, brewing and roasting before launching the business.
The approach is explicitly technical, using a modern electric roaster supported by software for analysis and a defined quality process for evaluating and selecting each coffee before adding it to the range. Coffees are sourced from farmers who can demonstrate transparency in what they pay their workers, and Fountain Rock pays significantly above Fair Trade prices.
The aim is to roast within twelve months of harvest and post within a week of roasting. The current line-up includes single origins from Colombia, Mexico and Kenya alongside seasonal blends such as Burning Cliff and Chesil Deep.
Bags are fully compostable and outer boxes are largely recycled. Wholesale, online retail and subscriptions are available.
The roastery at 6A Albany Road can be visited by appointment only.
