Jute Coffee is a small roastery in Thrapston, Northamptonshire, working with 100% arabica from small cooperatives and hand-roasting on a 20kg Toper. Its signature jute blend draws on beans from Brazil, Honduras, Colombia and Ethiopia, and has picked up Great Taste recognition (1-star in 2019, 2-star in 2020 and 2021), with the decaf and an Ethiopian single origin also taking 1-star awards.
The range runs to eight single origins alongside the blend. Sustainability sits at the centre of the business.
Pouches are made from at least 70% sugarcane waste and are kerbside recyclable, and Jute claims to be the first UK coffee supplier to deliver to commercial customers in reusable food-safe tubs designed to last 25 years. Spent grounds are sent to Envar for recycling into logs, and the roastery sponsors beehives at Workbridge, a Northamptonshire charity supporting people with mental illness, learning disabilities or brain injuries.
The business won a Weetabix Sustainability Award Silver in 2022. Coffee is sold direct, by subscription, and through wholesale.
