Kaffeehaus Coffee Roasters is a family founded roastery in Sacriston, County Durham, run by Austrian father and daughter Bernhard and Carina Nausner with team members Maya and Chris. The family started Kaffeehaus Amadeus as a cafe in Lanchester in 2013, bringing an Austrian filter coffee culture to the North East, then launched the roastery side in June 2020 (originally trading as Durham Coffee) to become Durham's first dedicated coffee roastery.
They roast on an Air Motion roaster, chosen for its lower energy use and reduced emissions compared with conventional drum roasters. Sourcing is built on direct relationships with green bean importers and producers, with origins including Brazil and Rwanda across blends and single origins such as Angel of the North, Sycamore Gap, Miners' Gala and St Cuthbert's Journey.
The range includes decaf and low-caf options, and the Rachel Parsons coffee is positioned as a project coffee for gender equality. Commercial commitments include support for Point North and the North East Community Forest.
The Sacriston roastery is open to visitors 10am to 2pm, Wednesday to Friday.
