Peak Bean is based in Furness Vale, Derbyshire, in the High Peak area of the Peak District. The business grew out of a small café in the village of Hayfield run by founders Deirdre and Andrew.

Finding it difficult to source freshly roasted coffee locally, they bought a roaster and began roasting for themselves. That roastery is now the main business, operating from a unit on Furness Vale Business Centre since the company was incorporated in 2016.

The roaster sources from cooperatives, including some certified by the Fairtrade Foundation and Rainforest Alliance, and pays above standard commodity prices. Their blends carry names drawn from local Peak District landmarks — Bleaklow, Cracken Edge, Eccles Pike, Mam Tor — which gives the range a strong sense of place.
