Penningtons Tea and Coffee is based in Kendal, at the southern edge of the Lake District, and has been operating since May 2018. The founding team brought prior experience in roasting, sourcing, equipment development and consultancy within the UK coffee industry.

They source green coffee through DR Wakefield, a specialist importer. Two things make Penningtons worth noting.

Their roastery runs on solar power, which feeds directly into their roasting process rather than simply offsetting emissions. Their home compostable Nespresso-compatible pods were named among the top 10 best coffee pods in the UK by Olive Magazine — a specific, verifiable recognition in a crowded pod market.

The business covers coffee, tea, training and equipment, and supplies cafés and restaurants as well as retail.
