Darkhouse Coffee Roasters was formed in 2019 by Jiri Buchtela, a Cumbria based barista who learned his trade as a coffee roaster in the Czech Republic before moving to the UK. Jiri imported a small roasting machine to produce small batch speciality coffees, initially for cafes and hotels local to Keswick in the Lake District.
The roastery describes itself as a community focused company that advocates great coffee and the great outdoors, and runs coffee tasting, brewing and roasting events. Beans are ethically sourced from around the world, with a direct connection to Vietnam and relationships to producing farms via two Cumbrian based green bean suppliers who have family links to the plantations.
The range includes speciality single origin coffees that have scored highly at independent cupping events. Darkhouse sells direct to consumers online alongside ongoing wholesale supply to local hospitality.
