Pharmacie Coffee Roasters was founded in 2015 by Rick, who had previously run coffee shops in Brighton, Hove and Kemp Town. The roastery moved to Lewes in 2021, taking an 1,800 sq ft warehouse on the Cliffe Industrial Estate with views of the South Downs National Park and the River Ouse.
Roasting is done on a Giesen, with both filter and espresso roasts offered across a rotating range of single origin coffees from producers including Finca El Durazno in Guatemala, Ngila Estate in Tanzania and Gold Mountain Coffee Growers in Nicaragua. The site emphasises traceability, working directly with importers, cooperatives and farmers and following each coffee from cup back to harvest.
The espresso bar at the roastery is open seven days a week, alongside a wholesale arm. Pharmacie hosted the UK Roasting Championships in 2023.
