Ringtons was established in 1907 by Samuel Smith, who started with a £250 investment and a single horse-drawn cart delivering tea door to door in Newcastle upon Tyne. Still family-run, it is one of the largest tea manufacturers in the UK, producing 45 million drinks per week from its BRC AA* rated factory on Algernon Road.
The business-facing arm covers speciality grade Arabica coffee roasted in-house by SCA-qualified staff, including a Q grader, with each delivery cupped and graded five times before it leaves the factory. Coffee is sourced from countries including Peru and Papua New Guinea, working through trusted relationships with farmers and importers and returning year after year to the same cooperatives.
The range includes a seasonal single origin, a Fairtrade and organic certified Triple Impact blend, house and speciality blends, and decaf, all packed in 250g or 1kg gas-flushed bags. Ringtons creates bespoke private label coffee for businesses and supplies a wide selection of commercial coffee machines.
The roastery sits within the Newcastle factory.
