Roberts & Co. has been in the tea and coffee trade since 1891, when John Wilson Roberts moved from Nefyn in North Wales to Liverpool and set up the business as Wilson Roberts & Co. Tea was the original trade, with coffee added in the 1930s.
The family supplied North Wales customers and the Cunard, Blue Star and White Star shipping lines, and later ran specialty shops in Wigan, Chester, Manchester, Southport and Soho before withdrawing from retail. The business has been based at Cedar Farm in Mawdesley, Lancashire since 1989, where it roasts on site, runs an espresso bar with seating for fifty, and operates a café known for its food.
Coffees are sold online, by mail order, through wholesale and at the farm. The range includes single origins, bespoke blends and a mountain water processed decaf.
Cedar Farm is an established independent food destination, which gives the roastery a different character from a standalone urban site.
