Established in 2010, Stow Town Coffee operates as one of Britain’s smallest commercial roasteries from the historic Cotswold town of Stow-on-the-Wold. Founded by Dave and Ali Cunliffe, the micro-roastery has carved out a distinctive niche by deliberately maintaining a small-scale operation from their Wells Barn location on Sheep Street.

The roastery’s business model centres on an intentionally limited customer base, focusing predominantly on partnerships with businesses within a 20-mile radius. This approach, which they’ve dubbed their “Jerry Maguire business model,” allows them to maintain exceptional quality control and develop bespoke blends for each client. They personally deliver all orders, enabling them to monitor coffee quality and machine settings whilst providing complimentary ongoing staff training to their wholesale partners.

Their retail presence operates as a takeaway espresso bar rather than a traditional café, offering freshly roasted beans ground to customers’ specifications. The roastery’s commitment to freshness is evident in their practice of bagging beans to order, ensuring optimal flavour profiles for both retail and wholesale customers.

Environmental consciousness shapes their operations, with their localised distribution model significantly reducing their carbon footprint. While they haven’t actively pursued industry awards, their reputation has been built on consistent quality and personal service, earning them recognition as one of the Cotswolds’ premier coffee destinations.

Operating hours run from 7:30 AM to 2 PM on weekdays and 8 AM to noon on Saturdays, maintaining a focused schedule that allows them to prioritise roasting quality and customer service over expanded retail operations.
