Balance Coffee was launched in April 2020 by James Bellis, who pivoted to coffee after a planned restaurant could not open during the pandemic. The London roaster sits firmly in the health-conscious end of the market rather than the specialty end, with every batch independently lab tested for moulds, mycotoxins, pesticide residues and heavy metals.
Bellis worked with Clemmie Rose, a qualified nutritionist at Harrods, to shape sourcing and roasting around antioxidant retention. Beans are bought from what Balance describes as the top 5 per cent of farms globally, with a stated 25 per cent premium paid for the grade.
The range sits alongside lion's mane mushroom coffee and tinctures, and decaf uses the EA sugarcane process. Now trading from 167 to 169 Great Portland Street, with a separate wholesale arm.
Not a roaster aimed at buyers chasing single origin traceability or producer relationships, but a clear pick for the wellness coffee shelf.
