Foundation Coffee Roasters is based at Unit 15, The Old Mushroom Farm in Halsetown, near St Ives in Cornwall. The team describes itself as passionate ocean advocates working to create a high grade speciality coffee offering through ethical practices and minimal environmental impact.
Sourcing is traceable down to individual contributors, with named producer relationships including the Betti family at Sitio Maranhao in Brazil, and the roastery states it pays more than the Fairtrade price for its coffee. Single origin offerings sit alongside the regular line up, and bags are sold in 250g and 1kg formats with multiple grind options.
Sustainability runs through the operation. Bags and labels are home compostable and printed with low solvent inks, coffee chaff is used as mulch by a local community orchard, hessian sacks are repurposed and local deliveries run on established routes using electric vehicles.
The company is working towards becoming completely carbon neutral and supplies wholesale customers alongside direct retail through its Cornwall base.
