Lands End Coffee was started by Ryan, who grew up on the Isles of Scilly and moved to Land's End in December 2017. The idea came after a trip to Bali, where he watched coffee shops roast their own beans in front of customers and decided to try the same in Cornwall.
He taught himself to roast on a one kilo machine he named Brenda, working out of a converted millbarn before moving to a 20ft steel shipping container a short walk from Land's End. The roastery has since moved to Unit 10c at Threemilestone Industrial Estate in Truro, which now operates as both a coffee shop and roastery alongside the original container and the Tehidy Woods Cafe opened in 2023.
Coffees are named after lighthouses on the Penwith peninsula, sourced from sustainable cooperatives including women's cooperatives that receive an additional premium for community projects. Packaging and marketing materials use recycled materials, and the business offsets through Offset Earth with trees planted monthly in Madagascar.
