Grain and Grind started roasting in 2018 after installing a roaster inside one of their existing Scottish coffee shops, allowing the team to produce their own beans alongside the cafe. They have since grown to a small chain across Glasgow, with sites in Burnside, Cathcart, Dennistoun, Giffnock and Strathbungo, plus locations in Bridge of Allan and Inverness, supplied by a standalone roastery.

John leads the roasting and selects the range, working with smallholders and farming co-operatives so that many coffees are named after the specific farms or estates they come from. Current line-ups include Kenya Samburu, Guatemala La Esperanza and Costa Rica San Rafael, with decafs from Brazil and Mexico processed using the Swiss Water and Mountain Water methods.

Beyond the cafes, Grain and Grind sells whole bean, ground and brew-bag coffee online, runs subscriptions, supplies wholesale customers and services espresso machines for businesses across the UK.
