H Gunton Ltd

H Gunton Ltd is a family-run grocer and coffee roaster in Colchester, founded in 1936 by Herbert Gunton and his son Geoffrey. The business is now in its fourth generation, run by Phil with his wife Diane and sister Beverly from the original shop at 81 to 83 Crouch Street.

Coffee is hand roasted in store and sold alongside speciality teas, British and Continental cheeses, Guntons own label preserves, pâtés and chutneys, Wilkin and Sons of Tiptree conserves, and a wide range of store cupboard goods. The coffee range covers African, Central American, South American, Indian, Asian and West Indian origins, plus house blends and guest beans.

Coffee sits within a much broader delicatessen and fine food offer rather than as a standalone speciality roastery. The shop trades from a single Colchester address and is open to walk in customers during normal retail hours.
