H.R. Higgins is one of the oldest independent coffee roasters in Britain, founded by Harold Rees Higgins on 1 April 1942 in a top floor room at 43 South Molton Street.
The shop moved to 79 Duke Street, Mayfair in 1986 and remains there today as the company's London shop and cafe. In 1960, Harold became the first British coffee roaster to buy directly from farmers at the Kibo Chagga farm on the slopes of Kilimanjaro, a relationship that still anchors the firm's direct sourcing approach.
The business has been family-run across four generations, with David Higgins as managing director since 2004 and Creative Director Ann Louise Roswald joining in 2019. In 2020 H.R.
Higgins moved roasting from Waltham Abbey to a purpose-built roastery at Moorgate Leas Farm in Hawsker, North Yorkshire. It has held a Royal Warrant since 1979, renewed under King Charles III in 2025.
The range covers single origins, blends including the 1950 Creole Blend, decaf, teas and gifts.
