North Star Coffee Roasters was founded in 2013 by Holly and Alex Kragiopoulos, after conversations with small-scale producers in Kenya prompted a rethink of how value is shared along the coffee supply chain. The roastery operates from Unit 10, 280 Tong Road in Leeds (LS12 3BG), with a customer-facing Coffee Hub at Leeds Dock that runs barista courses and serves as the public face of the business.
Sourcing is built on direct, long-term relationships with named producers including Maria Zoila Pineda at Finca Margarita, Edil Quinayas, Julian and Yisela Burbano, and Eric Landaverde. Origins on offer include Colombia, El Salvador, Rwanda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Burundi, Peru and Timor-Leste, with a Brazil Montanari CO2 decaf in the line-up.
North Star is a certified B Corp and supports climate resilience and youth empowerment projects in El Salvador and Rwanda alongside its green coffee purchases. The team supplies wholesale partners across the UK and runs subscriptions and online retail.
