Northern Cobbler was founded in 2010 by Feroza and Steffan, two friends and former footwear-industry colleagues whose interest in specialty coffee grew into an obsession during international travel. Their first cafe opened in 2015 in the Clarendon Park area of Leicester.

Roasting now takes place in a converted stable block in the Leicestershire countryside at Billesdon, near Market Harborough, where the site houses the roastery alongside an eatery and coffee shop. A glass partition lets cafe visitors watch the roasting in progress.

The roastery holds a Great Taste 2025 award and names many of its coffees after fish species, which gives the range a distinctive identity. They sell online with subscriptions, run wholesale accounts and operate retail locations in both Leicester and Billesdon.

The team is described as compact, with sourcing focused on what they call trusted partners to ensure traceability.
