Poblado Coffi roasts in the old quarrymen's barracks in Nantlle, a small village in the Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park in North Wales. The founders visited El Poblado in Medellín, Colombia in 2003, including a coffee farm, which began their interest in the industry.
After years of travel they settled in North Wales and started roasting in a garden shed, the cwt coffi, for three years before outgrowing that setup and moving to the current site in Nantlle, with a view towards Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon). The name combines the Welsh 'pobl' (people) and the Spanish 'poblado' (village, community).
Their current line-up spans Rwanda, Uganda, Ethiopia, Colombia, Guatemala, Brazil, Sumatra, Kenya and Peru, plus a decaf blend. Bags and stickers are 100% biodegradable.
The roastery opens its doors to visiting coffee lovers, and runs a seasonal Saturday café, Caffi Rhosty, in the courtyard during summer. They also organise the Poblado Plodders, a weekly community run and swim.
The business sells online, supplies wholesale accounts and offers a subscription.
