Gwynedd has 3 independent coffee roasters with distinct stories. Coffi Dre is a specialty roaster in Caernarfon operating as a bilingual Welsh and English business, started in 2021 as a coffee trailer venture by three friends. Ffa Da, which translates from Welsh as "Good Beans," is based in Llandanwg on the Cambrian coast and was founded in 2019 by a former science teacher experimenting at home. Poblado Coffi roasts from the old quarrymen's barracks in Nantlle, a small village in the Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park; the founders spent time in Medellín in 2003, which started their interest in coffee.
All three Gwynedd roasters are open to visitors at their respective sites. Caernarfon (Coffi Dre), Llandanwg (Ffa Da) and Nantlle in Eryri (Poblado Coffi) cluster across North Wales' coast and mountains for a longer weekend route.
