So Roast Coffee opened in 2015 in Southampton, roasting and serving from 5 The Triangle on Cobden Avenue in Bitterne Park. The cafe and roastery work side by side, supplying customers walking in for a flat white and households ordering bags through the online shop.

Subscriptions, gift plans and a trade section are all offered. The line-up centres on single origins, currently rotating through Rwanda, Ethiopia and Colombia.

Tasting notes lean towards the brighter, fruit-forward end, with cups described in terms like peach, caramel and cranberry, and chocolate, apple and almond. The decaf is a Colombian sugar cane process, kept on as a permanent fixture alongside the rotating origins.

So Roast does not publicly name its importer, producer partners or roasting machine, and there are no certifications such as B Corp, organic or Fairtrade claimed on the site.
