Volcano Coffee Works was founded in West Dulwich by New Zealand-born chef Kurt Stewart, who started by serving espresso from a vintage Italian Piaggio Ape cart on Rosendale Road. Eighteen years later the business has grown to a roastery, a cafe, and a team of 45 people.

Kurt still roasts the first batch of each day. The business became one of the first coffee companies to achieve B Corp status and now sits in the top 30% of B Corps worldwide.

They also claim to have been the first to put specialty coffee into a coffee pod. Kurt's background as a chef has shaped how they approach flavour development, treating coffee blending more like building a dish than simply selecting an origin.

The Mount Blend has received three stars at the Great Taste Awards. They sell approximately 19 million cups' worth of coffee annually.
