Weanie Beans has been sourcing and roasting coffee since 2007. The roaster works on a direct trade model, paying above world coffee prices and arguing that buying directly from producers puts more money in their hands than Fairtrade certification does.
The range mixes house blends like Scout and Citizen Kane with single origins from Ethiopia, Colombia, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Brazil and Myanmar, alongside a decaf from Colombia. Coffee is sold through an online shop, single origin and blend subscriptions, and a wholesale arm that supplies cafes and restaurants with beans, on site barista training, equipment and La Marzocco espresso machines.
Bags are made from LDPE4 plastic, which Weanie Beans says is fully recyclable at supermarket and council collection points and a step away from the foil lined bags used by most of the industry.
