Braw Beans is a family-run roaster started in 2020 by Sang in West Linton in the Scottish Borders, and now operated by Shannon. It is one of a small number of UK roasters using fluid bed air roasting rather than drum roasting.
Hot air lifts the beans through the roast and removes the chaff during the process, which the team argues delivers a cleaner, less acidic cup than drum-roasted equivalents. Beans are roasted to order in small batches, with four roast levels available from medium-light through to dark.
Origins rotate by season and have included Uganda, Ethiopia, Brazil, Peru, India and Vietnam, alongside a Swiss Water decaf blend. The operation is deliberately local: free delivery within Peebles and to West Linton on Thursdays, collection from Linton Bakes at the Cozy Kitchen in Peebles, and a steady presence at local markets.
