Butterworth & Son

Butterworth & Son is a speciality coffee roaster and tea merchant based at 1d Boldero Road in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. Owner Rob Butterworth runs the business, with the family name traced back to Harry Butterworth, a 19th century tea dealer in Manchester.

The in-house roastery operates five days a week, with most blends roasted on a Diedrich and a smaller machine reserved for monthly single origin releases. Sourcing focuses on smallholdings and indigenous communities, with current origins including Peru, Mexico, Kenya, Ethiopia, Colombia and Indonesia.

The team supplies cafes and businesses across the UK with coffee, tea and equipment, alongside barista training and machine maintenance. Wholesale customers include Roots Cafe at Blackthorpe Barn, Finnegan's Whiskers Cat Cafe, Honey + Harvey and Spindler's.

The business also supplies a range of rare coffees to Selfridges in London. Online retail covers single origins, blends, decaf, subscriptions and presentation packs.
