Ground Effect Coffee Roasters is a hand roasting coffee company based in Great Hucklow, in the Peak District, Derbyshire. It was founded by Chris Berry, a former offshore helicopter pilot who spent 20 years flying crews and clients before deciding coffee in aviation too often tasted poor and setting out to roast something better himself.
Each batch is hand roasted, using sample roasting, profile tracking, refractometry and Agtron analysis alongside training from the London School of Coffee. Coffees include single origins such as Colombian El Eden, Tanzania Mbili Twiga and Brazil Vinte, plus the Mach One espresso blend and a swiss water processed decaf.
A Wings blend supports Wings for Warriors, a UK charity that helps wounded or sick servicemen and women train as professional pilots. Wholesale supply, coffee equipment from brands including La Spaziale, San Remo and Mahlkonig, and barista training are also offered to cafes and other businesses.
