Indigo Coffee Project was started in Manchester by Carlos, who grew up in Venezuela where coffee was how his family began every morning. He moved to Manchester to learn English, intending to stay a year, and built the roastery there instead.

It now runs from Oldham Road in Saddleworth, and every bag is roasted to order before it ships. The sourcing bar is specific.

Every coffee scores 85 or above on the SCA scale, independently verified rather than self assessed, and each one arrives with the story of the people behind it. That emphasis runs through the whole operation, on the argument that the farmers, pickers and processors whose work makes speciality coffee possible are almost never mentioned.

Wholesale customers get more than a delivery, with support on dialling in and on helping staff talk about what they are serving. Subscriptions, brewing equipment, merchandise and events round out the range.
