Island Roasted is the roasting arm of the I.O.W Espresso Co., based in Newport on the Isle of Wight. The business grew out of event catering and a frustration with the coffee being supplied to it.
The first shop roaster was installed at Caffe Isola in 2010, and a dedicated roastery followed in 2013 with a Diedrich IR12 down by the River Medina. Production was joined by a vintage 20kg Vittoria, restored after being shipped from Sicily, with an early 1980s Petroncini 120kg now in line for future expansion.
A smaller Diedrich IR5 sits at Caffe Isola for developing new coffees alongside an Ikawa sample roaster. The team now numbers more than 25 people, roasting around 40 tonnes a year.
Direct Trade routes are used where possible, sourcing from farms producing anywhere from 6 to 300 sacks. Web orders are roasted on Mondays and Thursdays.
Island Roasted holds Wight Marque status, awarded in 2014 for products genuinely made on the island.
