Isle of Wight has 4 independent coffee roasters, a notable concentration for an island of around 140,000 people. The Island Tea & Coffee Co. has been operating from Rookley since 1982 with a team of sixteen, making it one of the longer running island operations in the UK. The Isle of Wight Espresso Company started in the late 1990s as an importer of Astoria machines and Bristot coffee from Italy before adding its own roasting in 2010 at Caffe Isola. Island Roasted in Newport and Jasper's Coffee in Cowes (Great Taste Award 2-Star for the Peak Espresso Blend) round out the geography.
The island is compact enough to visit multiple roasters in a day. Newport (Island Roasted), Rookley (Island Tea & Coffee), Cowes (Jasper's Coffee) and Caffe Isola (Isle of Wight Espresso Company) cluster within easy reach by car.
