The Bean Shop

The Bean Shop was founded in 2003 by John and Lorna Bruce on George Street in Perth, Scotland, and has been roasting and selling online since 2004. Roasting started in the basement of the George Street shop on a 5kg Probat, which is still in use, alongside a Loring used for specialty batches.

The business runs as both a retail coffee roaster with a high-street shop and a wholesale supplier, with an unusually broad range that takes in single-origin coffees, organic options, a full tea selection, and a charity coffee range. Two charity blends support the Children's Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS) charity and other good causes the team works with.

The team has grown to around eight named staff plus weekend helpers. John handles the roastery and green coffee; Lorna leads the brand and creative side.

The shop is open Monday to Saturday for visitors, and the company works through importers and partners including Swiss Water, the Organic Food Federation, Fairtrade, and Rainforest Alliance.
