cafen was born in Edinburgh and works as a modern roasting company, intentionally light roasted, honouring the individuality of each lot through a precise, thoughtful approach. It began with a home coffee ritual that grew into the cafen brew bar, its flagship site on Dundas Street in Edinburgh, open every day.

Coffee is hand roasted locally at a roastery a few miles from the brew bar, with a changing menu that features new producers and roast styles. cafen is transparent with its sourcing partners and producers, and each coffee sold gives origin, region, producer, varietal, altitude, harvest year and process. A recent lot was a natural process Red Catuai from the Navarro Ceciliano family farm in Tarrazu, Costa Rica. cafen offers a coffee subscription and a wholesale programme for cafes and businesses wanting to build a coffee menu or train staff.
