Horsebox Coffee Co was founded in May 2015 by Emily, who returned to South Oxfordshire after twenty years in London speciality coffee and reinvented her childhood 1976 horsebox as a mobile coffee unit. The roastery side opened in August 2018 as Dark Horse Roastery, and the business now trades primarily under that name from Highlands Farm in Brightwell cum Sotwell, near Wallingford.

Roasting is done in small batches on a Diedrich, which the team says cuts roasting emissions by up to 50% through its infrared burner. Coffees are sourced direct from farms and co operatives alongside trusted green trading partners, with a stated focus on fair grower pricing.

Packaging is 100% compostable and plastic free. Local deliveries go out via Velocity carbon neutral couriers.

The site at Highlands Farm runs barista and roastery experiences plus accredited BSA and City and Guilds courses, and the team also operates Horsebox and Deux Chevaux mobile coffee units across Oxfordshire.
