Missing Bean opened in Oxford in 2009 as the city centre's first independently owned coffee shop. Roasting began in 2014 with a Coffee-Tech Ghibli 15kg, replaced by a Giesen 15kg in 2019 and an IMF 30kg in 2025.
The roastery sits at their East Oxford headquarters alongside a warehouse and tasting room. Co-founders Ori Halup and Vicky Troth both discovered specialty coffee in Sydney before returning to the UK to open the business together.
The cafe network now spans nine locations across Oxfordshire and beyond, including Abingdon, Botley, Woodstock, Charlbury, Cowley and a Maidenhead wine bar. Missing Bean roasts five days a week and works on direct trade with farms including Sitio Posses in Brazil, Finca Hamburgo in Mexico, El Jaguar in Nicaragua and Chilchos Valley in Peru.
Their house espresso, The Original, remains the long-standing best seller. Retail bags in 250g, 500g and 1kg sizes are fully recyclable, as are their shipping boxes.
