East Lothian has 3 independent coffee roasters with strong specialty pedigree. Steampunk Coffee started in 2012 roasting in a garage and serving at events from a vintage campervan called Mavis before moving into a warehouse in the centre of North Berwick on the East Lothian coast. Hometown Coffee Roasters was established in North Berwick in 2017 by Andrew, who had been working in coffee shops and competing in the UK Barista Championships since the age of 16; roasting started in June 2019. Common Coffee runs a deliberately tight range of six coffees structured by flavour profile (Bold, Strong, Sweet, Bright, Complex) rather than origin.
North Berwick has two of East Lothian's three roasters within walking distance (Steampunk, Hometown), easily combined into a single coastal day trip from Edinburgh. Common Coffee at Rosemains Steading sits inland, just outside Edinburgh.
