Powys has 3 independent coffee roasters across rural mid Wales. Cribyn Coffee Company was founded in 2021 by Rhys and Gwen, with the roastery in a restored 300 year old coach house just outside Brecon, named after one of the highest peaks in the Brecon Beacons. Black Mountain Roast is based in the foothills of the Black Mountains near Hay-on-Wye, run by founders Simon and Mungo from a barn setting. Footprint Coffee is run by Greg and Emma from the Welsh Marches; the idea formed while paragliding over coffee farms in Colombia during a long trip through the Americas.
Powys is a rural drive county. Brecon (Cribyn), Hay-on-Wye (Black Mountain Roast) and the Welsh Marches (Footprint) reward routes through the Brecon Beacons and the borderland.
