Coffee roasters in Berkshire

Berkshire has 5 independent coffee roasters, anchored by Reading at the eastern end of the county and reaching out to Windsor. The mix is unusually varied for a county of this size, with a farm to roastery family operation, one of Reading's longest running specialty cafes, and an Ethiopian coffee ceremony inspired roaster all working within an hour of each other.

Colco Coffee in Reading is the most distinctive of the group. The roastery is rooted in a family coffee farm in Salazar, Colombia: master roaster Angela Rojas grew up there learning the trade from her father Don Jose, and the UK side of the business reinvests in the regeneration of the family farm. There are very few UK roasters with that direct a relationship to origin. Workhouse Coffee, also in Reading, anchors the longer running side. It was founded by Greg Costello in 2006, runs multiple cafes across the city, and was named in The Telegraph's 30 best places for coffee in Britain. At the smaller end, Brewup Coffee in Windsor takes its inspiration from the Ethiopian coffee ceremony tradition.

Reading has the highest concentration and the easiest visitor access. Windsor and the surrounding villages each have one or two roasters worth detouring for. Several supply cafes, offices, and pubs across the Thames Valley alongside their direct online sales.
