Coffee roasters in Cambridgeshire

Cambridgeshire has 5 independent coffee roasters that span an unusual range of scale and ethos. Peterborough hosts Masteroast, one of the UK's largest private label roasters at over 6,000 tonnes a year. Shepreth has a roastery that doubles as a music venue. Ely opened a five container outdoor coffee yard in 2023. St Neots got its first roastery in recent years. Cambridge sits in the middle of all of it.

Masteroast Coffee Co Ltd was founded in 1981 by Les and Eve Mills in Fengate, Peterborough, and now operates from a 40,000 sq ft facility supplying over 1,000 coffee brands across 13,000+ formats and distributing more than 6,000 tonnes annually, making it one of the UK's largest private label roasters. Hot Numbers Coffee runs a roastery at Shepreth (open daily, also a venue hosting pizza nights and gigs) plus two cafes in Cambridge on Gwydir Street and Trumpington Street; founder Simon's background combines engineering, music and coffee. Silver Oak Coffee began in a garage in 2013 by Bruce after training at the London School of Coffee, grew through farmers' markets, and in March 2023 opened The Yard in Ely, a five container outdoor coffee venue.

Cambridge city is the easiest visitor stop (Hot Numbers cafes on Gwydir Street and Trumpington Street). Shepreth (Hot Numbers roastery, open daily), Ely (Silver Oak's The Yard) and St Neots (Bohemia Roasts) reward longer drives across the county.
