Coffee roasters in Northumberland

Northumberland has 5 independent coffee roasters, a good number for one of England's most sparsely populated counties. The geography spans the full length of the county, from Berwick-upon-Tweed at the very north (Northern Edge, the northernmost roastery in England) through Amble (Mocha Mondo) to Prudhoe in the south. The county is unusual in two ways: one of its roasters sources exclusively from Honduras through founder family ties, and one is geographically the furthest north English roastery on this directory.

Caribe Coffee Co. is run by Wilmer Carcamo, who grew up in Honduras, and his wife Elle, with the family's connections to Honduran coffee farming used to source exclusively from that country. Wilmer works directly with producers in a market where Honduran coffee is underrepresented in UK speciality. Northern Edge Coffee is based in Berwick-upon-Tweed, founded by Dan in 2014; the roastery runs a 12kg Probat and the brand leans into its position at the very north of England with blends and single origins named after local landmarks. Northside Coffee operates as a Rainforest Alliance certified business and a climate positive partner with Ecologi, purchasing only RFA certified coffees for espresso blends and contributing to tree planting in coffee growing countries.

Northumberland roasters skew rural and online rather than retail. Berwick-upon-Tweed (Northern Edge's coffee house alongside the roastery) and Amble (Mocha Mondo at Coquet Enterprise Park) are the easiest visitor stops. The county's roastery scene rewards a coastal or rural drive more than a city itinerary.
