Highland has 4 independent coffee roasters, anchored geographically by Inverness (Inverness Coffee Roasting, the main specialty supplier across the Highlands) and the rural Cairngorms (Cairngorm Coffee with a roadside site at Ralia near Newtonmore, Cairngorm Leaf and Bean in Grantown-on-Spey). The most distinctive of the four is Coffee Knoydart, which roasts on the Knoydart peninsula, one of the most remote inhabited places in mainland Britain, accessible only by sea or on foot.
Inverness is the easiest visitor stop, with Inverness Coffee Roasting's shop and Cairngorm Coffee's A9 site at Ralia accessible by car. Grantown-on-Spey (Cairngorm Leaf and Bean, online only) and the Knoydart peninsula (Coffee Knoydart) reward dedication; Knoydart in particular is genuinely a foot or boat trip into one of the UK's least accessible places.
